Marble Falls One Water Initiative: Securing a Sustainable Water Future
As our community grows rapidly and faces climate challenges, Marble Falls is working to ensure our water supply serves our needs today and for future generations.
Why One Water?
Since 2018, Marble Falls’ population has grown nearly three times faster than the state average. This trend is expected to continue, with the population projected to nearly double by 2040. Due to ongoing droughts, our main water source, the Highland Lakes system, has been experiencing historic low levels, and future water purchases from this system will not be possible.
Without the additional water available to our community through One Water, Marble Falls could fall short of water as early as 2045. One Water will help us avoid that scenario by providing water for decades.
One Water focuses on optimizing all available water sources (surface water and groundwater), ongoing conservation, and recycling to ensure our community has a safe and sustainable water supply for the future. Marble Falls will join other forward-thinking central Texas communities in leveraging every drop of this precious resource.

Key Features of the One Water Plan
-
Long-Term Water Security: One Water addresses the growing demand for water by diversifying our sources, reducing reliance on drought-prone reservoirs, emphasizing conservation, and integrating advanced water purification and reuse.
-
New Water Reclamation Facility: A key component of the plan is a new water reclamation facility that will expand wastewater treatment capacity and provide non- potable water for irrigation through the city’s Purple Pipe system.
-
Advanced Water Purification: Future phases include an advanced water purification plant that will treat recycled water to meet drinking water standards, further supplementing our water supply.

Why This is Important to Marble Falls
-
Resilience: One Water reduces our dependence on the Highland Lakes system, making Marble Falls more resilient to future droughts and extreme weather. A new reclamation plant will protect our community from outages.
-
Cost-Effective Solution: The plan is funded through state and federal grants, low-interest loans, and development fees, making it a financially sustainable solution for the city.
-
Environmental Benefits: Recycling and reusing water through One Water will help preserve natural resources, protect ecosystems, and position Marble Falls as a leader in sustainable water management.
